The Future of Mobile Technologies

It’s been an enriching experience to watch and take part in the evolution of mobile technologies. From playing around with early mobile apps and simple games to helping companies integrate high-functioning mobile apps that radically transform the way they deliver services and products, we are excited for the next evolutions of mobile technologies.

As we see it, mobile technologies aren’t just tools for improved efficiency, but they are transforming the way we interact with and experience the world around us. Mobile apps are one part of the equation, but many other supporting technologies will continue to bring a more immersive experience to the way we engage with technology.

Let's look at how businesses are currently using mobile technologies and the future landscape of mobile technology integration.

The Rise of Mobile Technologies

The field of “mobile technologies” began with the rise of mobile apps and the need to adapt to consumers' growing desire to consume content on the go. Once software, tools and websites that were only accessible on a desktop became accessible on our mobile devices, there’s been no looking back. These early apps were fun and helped lay the foundation for the mobile space, but they only gave us a small glimpse of what would come next.

Today, the term “mobile” is no longer confined to just apps. IBM defines mobile technology as technology that goes where the user goes. It comprises two-way portable communication devices, computing devices, and the networking technology that connects them. These technologies redefine how we interact with businesses, products, people, cities, and even our homes. With the advancement of new hardware that supports more affordable mobile technologies that are increasingly powerful by the day, the pace of mobile evolution will only continue to increase.

Mobile technology is technology that goes where the user goes. It comprises two-way portable communication devices, computing devices, and the networking technology that connects them.

Mobile Technology Integration for Businesses and Customers

For companies to stay competitive, they need to deliver fantastic customer experiences while also improving efficiency. To accomplish this, the integration of mobile technologies is a must. Our goal at Majestyk is to help businesses figure out their problems, what they are trying to achieve, and which digital solutions will support these efforts.

There’s a lot of fact-finding to do before bringing mobile technology into the picture. We talk with a business’s teams and customers to first understand the significant internal or customer-facing challenges they want to overcome. From there, it’s about showing them their options and what they can genuinely achieve through digital transformation.

In many cases, these talks can be overwhelming for businesses because they aren't familiar with or don’t understand the technology. For this reason, we always make an effort to talk about the technology in a way that they can comprehend. We also work with their IT department to help address any concerns.

From our experience, businesses deploy mobile or digital transformation technologies for two key reasons: 1) to eliminate inefficiencies with internal operations and 2) to improve customer experience.

Technology Integration for Streamlined Internal Operations

We’ve helped many businesses improve efficiency and streamline their internal operations through digital transformation. In many cases, we’ve implemented solutions that help businesses transition from primarily paper operations to fully digital processes. Utilizing digital technology eliminates the manual effort of keeping track of paper records, reduces the overall burden of managing operations, and increases efficiency.

Another good example is the work we’ve done with Quick Minerals. As a B2B paint distributor, Quick Minerals originally had inefficiencies in the way they ordered supplies from China and how they communicated with customers. We implemented an internal CRM to organize all customer and supplier information and manage interactions more effectively.

Technology Integration for Enhanced Customer Experience

When implementing mobile technologies for consumer-facing businesses, the focus is on improving the efficiency and enjoyability of the touch points between a customer and the brand.

As we consider which type of mobile solutions to implement, we always ask:

  • How can we make a customer’s life easier?
  • How can we help a customer reach their goals with a product or service quicker?
  • How can we improve a customer’s life by using this technology?

By strategically using mobile technologies in this way, you’ll gain loyalty from your customers, which ultimately leads to more revenue for your business.

For Example:

We’ve worked with AudioMack for 6+ years to help deliver their music streaming service to millions of users as efficiently as possible. In our collaboration, we’re constantly assessing the effectiveness of the app’s features and envision ways to improve upon them. We bring these features to customers, analyze how users engage with them, and find ways to elevate the user experience based on this feedback.

The key thing to remember with mobile technologies is that though the technology enables the connections between customers and businesses, the focus is always on the people using these technologies and how we can improve their lives.

Emerging and Future Mobile Technology Trends

We believe the trends and technologies outlined below will play a significant role in shaping the future of mobile technology integration.

AI Will Support All Mobile Technologies

Almost all apps today use some form of AI to gather and synthesize data to improve user experience. This trend will continue to gain momentum and AI will only get more intelligent, leading to even better and more customized mobile experiences.

Voice-Enabled Technologies Will Shape Consumer Experiences

Most current voice technologies take commands from users and execute a specific action. However, as the technology progresses and merges with AI, interactions with voice technologies will be much more conversational.

Instead of simply confirming a command or asking basic questions, voice technologies of the future will intelligently respond, actively learn, and help guide a users’ experience with the technology. Examples:

Voice-assisted intelligent recommendations: Many apps already use AI to guide users on maximizing their experience with an app, but these recommendations are just presented on a user’s device without much interaction. In the near future, these recommendations will be much more refined and conversational in nature. Instead of the recommendations just being based on data gathered through user activity, the AI will be able to gather verbal information shared by the user, synthesize it, and present recommendations verbally alongside showcasing it on a user’s device.

Interactive toys: We helped develop CogniToys which is a speech-enabled children’s toy that can listen, speak, learn, and grow with your child. CogniToys keeps kids entertained while also teaching them essential skills in a conversational way.

In the coming years, voice technologies will become less robotic, more functional, and the accuracy and fluency of speech will continue to improve.

Greater Adoption of AR and VR Technologies

Though AR and VR are in their infancy of development, the technology is readily available and already being applied in various industries. As the technology progresses, we can expect to see more advanced use cases and broader adoption. Examples:

Waste management: Some vendors are using apps with AR capabilities to help customers choose which size of dumpster will fit best in their driveway, parking lot, or worksite before the dumpster is ever delivered. This creates efficiency for the customer and saves the waste management vendors time and money.

Interior design: AR headsets can be used to preview changes to a house without physically making the changes. This could include trying different paint colors, light fixtures and placing furniture in various locations looking for the best spot.

Mobile Technologies Will Work Together to Create Fully Immersive Experiences

“Immersive” is a buzzword gaining a lot of traction, and for good reason. In essence, an immersive experience combines multiple mobile technologies to produce a more dynamic and connected relationship with these technologies. The results of this immersion aren’t superficial, but rather, they are concretely benefiting the users involved in the experience. Examples:

Connected homes: Many modern homes are now fully connected through voice technologies, touch screens, and AI. In these homes, you can use your voice to order groceries on command, adjust the music throughout your entire house, or even check your security cameras on any device or monitor in the house.

Smart cars: Car manufacturers such as Tesla go the extra mile to create a more immersive experience for their customers. Very little is done manually anymore, including actually driving down the road. Tech controls it all, from adjusting the mirrors and seats to connecting to mobile applications within the car.
